Installing: How to uninstall

For instructions on how to uninstall Gears, click the link for your operating system below:

Windows XP or Vista

  1. Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs (on XP) or Programs and Features (on Vista).
  4. Select Google Gears in the list of programs.
  5. Click the Remove button.
If you've installed Google Chrome, Gears is installed by default. To uninstall Gears for Google Chrome, you'll need to uninstall Google Chrome.

Linux

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the Tools menu.
  3. Select Extensions (Firefox 1) or Add-ons (Firefox 2 or later).
  4. Select Google Gears in the list of programs.
  5. Click Uninstall.
  6. Restart Firefox.

Mac OS X

  • Firefox
    1. Open Firefox.
    2. Click the Tools menu.
    3. Select Extensions (Firefox 1) or Add-ons (Firefox 2 or later).
    4. Select Google Gears in the list of programs.
    5. Click Uninstall.
    6. Restart Firefox.
  • Safari
    1. Quit Safari.
    2. In Finder, open your Applications folder.
    3. Open the folder named Utilities.
    4. Open Terminal.
    5. In Terminal, enter the following command (including the quotes): '/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Gears.plugin/Contents/Resources/uninstall.command'
    6. Press Enter.
    7. Enter your password when prompted.

Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0

  1. Select Settings.
  2. If present, select the System tab.
  3. Select Remove Programs.
  4. Select Google Gears from the list.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. Restart your device.
After uninstalling, you'll no longer have offline access to applications that require Gears. Uninstalling won't remove any offline information you currently have on your system.
