You can find out if Gears is installed on a particular computer, for example, public computers. Use any of the following methods to check for Gears.
- Visit http://gears.google.com. The Gears webpage will clearly tell you whether Gears is installed on the computer you're using.
- Click the Tools menu in your browser and see if Gears settings is listed in the menu. If it's listed, then Gears is installed.
- Check the programs on your computer. Click the operating system you're using below to view instructions:
- Windows XP or Vista
- Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
- Select Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs (on XP) or Programs and Features (on Vista).
- See if Google Gears is listed in the list of programs.
If you've installed Google Chrome as your browser, Gears is installed by default. - Mac OS X or Linux using Firefox
- Click the Tools menu.
- Select Extensions (Firefox 1) or Add-ons (Firefox 2 or later).
- See if Google Gears is listed in the list of programs.
- Mac OS X using Safari
In Safari, click the Safari menu. If 'Google Gears Settings' isn't listed, then Gears isn't installed.
- Windows Mobile
You can usually access the list of installed programs by selecting Remove Programs on the Settings page. If Google Gears isn't listed, then Gears isn't installed.
- Windows XP or Vista
